Samantha's Professional Experience

Literary Agency Reader — Lana Popovic (Chalberg & Sussman)

9/1/2014 – 2/1/2018

Crafted editorial letters critiquing story, outlining issues with plot, characters, themes, and overall narrative arc, explaining what worked and what didn't, and always offering suggestions on how to resolve the manuscript's issues. Additionally, I read queries daily and created submission lists of editors at publishers for client manuscripts.

Together with Lana, I helped edit the following published books, all with fantasy elements:

- The Love That Split the World by Emily Henry (Penguin Random House)

- A Million Junes by Emily Henry (Penguin Random House)

- The Hidden Memory of Objects by Danielle Mages Amato (Harper Collins)

- The Dark Beneath the Ice by Amelinda Berube (Sourcebooks Fire)

- Here There Are Monsters by Amelinda Berube (Sourcebooks Fire)

Reviewer — Shelf Awareness

11/1/2017

I review adult, YA, and children's fiction and nonfiction books.

Rights Manager and Publicist — University Press of Florida

7/1/2014 – 5/1/2020

I worked at the University Press of Florida in various capacities. I began work as a publicist, marketing and promoting authors' books and events, pitching books for review and awards, and pitching authors for appearances, readings, and book exhibits. As subsidiary rights manager, I pitched, negotiated, managed, and tracked all translation, film/tv, audiobook and other rights deals. I also managed all permissions requests. My work involved continual communication with authors, media outlets, and bookstores, as well as with international subagents and publishers.

What Samantha's Clients Say

Verified reviews from clients they have worked with

Working with Samantha has been an absolute pleasure. Not only was she timely and professional, but she really listened to what I was hoping for and delivered in spades. Her ability to connect with my vision for what I wanted my manuscript to be and provide thorough and thoughtful feedback on it was phenomenal. The edit letter was filled with actionable suggestions and the accompanying in-line notes truly helped me to see the places where I could make some tweaks and adjustments. It's energized me as I tackle a fifth revision of this manuscript. I highly recommend Samantha and I hope to work with her again on future projects. 14/10 stars. Phenomenal! Thank you so much Samantha!

Samantha's developmental feedback is incredible. She provides good insight, raises questions, gives suggestions, and guides without being pushy. The thing I like the most is that she takes the time to stop and highlight particularly good sections or phrases, with something like "Nice" or "GOOD". It's a great boost to know that some of what you've written is already good as-is.

Samantha is a dream come true for me as an author. She doesn't just offer an editing service, she offers a dialogue between you, the author, and her, the editor. This is invaluable; it creates a finished product that is exponentially better than if you simply received input from an editor and took that to a publisher. Samantha is an expert on the technical side, but she also has some sort of magical insight I cannot pin down. She is so good at reading the themes and characters I create, she often makes alterations that foreshadow my plans for the sequel. She enhances the characters and narrative as well as the flow. I cannot imagine publishing a book without the service she offers. At the end of working on this project with Samantha, I once again find myself eagerly looking forward to working with her on the next product. I used to think editing a manuscript was scary, but now it is my favorite part of the process.

Samantha was amazing! I have felt stuck with this book for so long. I knew something wasn't working, but I couldn't figure it out. Samantha was able to identify the exact issue. If I hadn't worked with her, I don't know if I ever would have gotten to the point where I would have published this book. Now I feel confident I'll be able to fix what wasn't quite working and make this the novel I wanted it to be. She is so kind, motivating, and great at what she does. I couldn't recommend her more. I will definitely be working with her again.

This is my second time using Samantha's services. I couldn't be more thrilled and satisified. She was so thorough and detailed. I found every recommendation invaluable. She turned a good story into a great story. She also taught me a few things along the way. I'm already writing my next story and will be seeking Samantha's services again in the future.
